The WHY factor....

First of all HAPPY NEW YEAR Ladies!!!!!!!

As I look at the numerous posts on my Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, I notice alarming number of us making the same old New Years promises to self. You know the ones I'm talking about... "I'm definitely going to eat better this year and exercise more." "I'm going to finally lose the last of that baby fat from my 15 year old!" "I'm going to Start that journal, Save that money, Start that business, Take that trip, Persue that new career" on and on and on and on!!! These are the promises we can all look forward to from others and even make them ourselves...I'm certainly guilty!! I would set all these goals, yet by most Decembers I had missed out on the trip, done nothing towards preparing for that business and mysteriously wound up GAINING MORE BABY FAT!!!!

Well this year I sat down and decided to figuire out what I keep doing wrong. Why is it that I can set these personal goals, with the very best intentions in mind and heart, yet still over 12 months, windup not only failing to attain the goal for myself, but in the process feel as if I'm failing ME! As I comtemplated this question, the words of Starbucks owner Howard Schultz hit me like a 100 pound boulder, "It's not WHAT you do, it's WHY you do it!" And just like that, I had the antidote to every broken promise, New Years or otherwise, that I'd ever made to myself!

You see when we set personal goals with no reasoning to the madness, it registers to the brain that our suffering or sacrificing isn't worth it! Because our bodies are slaves to our minds, overtime, our willpower begins to break under the pressure of our fleshly desires. It then becomes almost impossible for us to remain consistent, disciplined and focused on the mission! However, if we could at our very weakest moments, remeber the WHY's. Why am I working so hard to lose this extra weight? Why am I determined to take such good care of my body? Why put this extra money aside? Why do I work so hard towards getting this degree? Why start this blog geared towards strengthening broken women? WHY???????

My husband likes to refer to the why factor as the heartbeat of our intentions. And we all know what happens when the heart stops beating! If we just keep the WHY's at the forefront of our minds, with Hard Work, Determintaion, Concistency and Persistence there is NOTHING that we can't achieve!! Then before we know it ladies, our old goals have been met, we're setting new goals and creating great, life altering and that's just in the month of January!!! (smile*)

My prayer for you today is that you would not just set the goal, but determine and remain focused on the WHY behind it!! Live Purposefully Ladies....
